What happens when you lack exercise
As exercising gives you really great health benefits, it goes without saying lack of exercise will give you drawbacks. Here are some of the things that could happen:
1. Weakness
A lack of movement or not enough energy exertion would result to your body adapting a lethargic lifestyle. You'll lose muscle and store fat instead as your body perceives muscle growth beyond basic function to be unnecessary.
2. Weight gain
While diet will help keep off the extra weight your body's metabolism will not be the same today as it would be 10-20 years from now. When you age your body's metabolic rate naturally slows down as it shifts gear from energy releasing to energy conservation and this means more storing than burning.
Lack of exercise would then only increase the tendency for the body to store fat as it will not have any way to expend any more than it needs to.
3. Increased risk of disease
Your body will slowly reduce the amount of effort it puts into functioning optimally if you don't push it over the limit every now and then. This is particularly true for your heart and lungs as a lack of exercise can lead to an increased risk for heart and lung diseases.
4. Higher levels of stress
Not all of us can afford stress pills or vent our frustrations out to a therapist (which also costs money). Removing one of the cheapest ways of ridding stress will mean elevated stress levels that could result to stress-related illnesses such as cardiac arrest or stroke.
5. You won't look as good
There's something about people who exercise that instantly makes them physically attractive against their less-active counterparts. A lack of exercise will cause plenty of health issues and it will manifest itself on what you look like and you won't like what you see in the mirror.
