Ill effects of sleep loss
Sleep loss and sleep disorders are one of the most common health issues in America.
Chronic sleep loss leads to several issues as below:
1. Affects skin:
Lack of sleep increases the occurrence of pimples and blackheads! The same is evident in students who wilfully compromise their sleep during exams.
Scanty sleep fastens skin aging leading to wrinkles.
2. Obesity:
Sleep deficit in both, children and adults leads to obesity. Leptin is a hormone which is responsible for the feeling of satiety after food consumption. People who sleep less have low levels of leptin. They tend to over eat and especially crave for high calorie junk food.
3. Decreased immunity:
Sleep loss takes a toll on the immune system. Sleep deprived people are more susceptible to infections. They also have a delayed healing.
4. Affects the mental wellbeing:
Sleep deprived people lose control over their emotions and are easily susceptible to anger. Sleep affects the thinking process and makes way for anxiety and depression.
5. Quality of life compromised :
Lack of sleep makes us slow and dull, disrupts concentration, and decreases the productivity levels thus impacting the quality of life.
6. Leads to addictions:
Lack of sleep disturbs mind. A sleep disturbed person switches over to something like an alcohol to elevate his mood. Such habits lead to addictions in the long run.
7. Memory Loss:
Sleep affects memory. Sharp wave ripples occurring during deep sleep are responsible for the long term memory. Scanty sleep causes forgetfulness; the same was proved by a research conducted by French and American researchers in 2009.
8. Bitter sexual health:
A study conducted by National Sleep Foundation concluded that less sleep leads to havoc in sex life. On the contrary 8 hours of quality sleep promotes conception, it’s evident in those women who take time to conceive.
9. Diseases and death:
Poor sleep makes way to stress which in turn affects the health of vital organs. Chronic lack of sleep is associated with heart attacks, heart failures, BP and Diabetes.
Take some action before it’s late. Pay attention to sleep problems in the beginning itself! The earlier, the better…
